Parking Spot Dispute Turns Ugly: Wealthy Women Face Off in Court (2025)

A heated dispute over a parking spot in Perth's prestigious western suburbs has escalated to the courtroom, pitting two prominent women against each other in a battle that has captured public attention. The incident, which occurred outside their multi-million-dollar homes, has sparked a legal battle that is both intriguing and controversial.

The protagonists of this story are Louise St John Kennedy, a renowned West Australian architect, and Dr. Prudence Manners, a respected rheumatologist. Last May, an argument over a parking spot allegedly led to Kennedy's arrest, with claims of a knife being brandished.

The dispute unfolded on Chester Road, where the two women's properties share a driveway. A neighbor captured part of the altercation on camera, providing a glimpse into the heated exchange. In the footage, Kennedy, 74, can be heard shouting expletives at the 81-year-old Dr. Manners, demanding she move her car.

Prosecutors allege that Kennedy then retrieved a large knife from her car and threatened Dr. Manners with it. However, Kennedy denies this, claiming the object in her hand was an architectural tool known as an angle finder ruler.

Kennedy has pleaded not guilty to charges of being armed or pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear and common assault. She has chosen to represent herself in court, adding an intriguing layer to the proceedings.

But here's where it gets controversial: Kennedy also faces charges of breaching a restraining order. She was arrested again in September last year for allegedly threatening to run over Dr. Manners outside their properties. Kennedy has pleaded not guilty to this charge as well, maintaining her innocence.

The trial, which has been ongoing for over a year, has had its fair share of twists and turns. On Monday, Kennedy had the opportunity to cross-examine Dr. Manners in person, asking her, "Are you dishonest?" Dr. Manners responded with a confused, "I beg your pardon?"

During the cross-examination, Kennedy insinuated that Dr. Manners had fabricated the story and provided false statements to the police. She even brought a tree branch to use as a pointer during her presentation, as she was informed the court did not have one.

Dr. Manners testified that Kennedy had been honking her horn aggressively before getting out of her car and threatening her in person. Kennedy allegedly grabbed the older woman by the neck and pushed her, an action she later admitted to but claimed was not an assault.

Dr. Manners, who moved into her over $2 million property less than a year before the alleged incident, claims she was terrified and believed she was having a heart attack during the encounter.

On Tuesday, the court viewed body-worn camera footage of Kennedy's arrest, where she exclaimed, "This is bizarre," upon seeing the police at her front door. Kennedy claimed that on the day of the incident, she had a medical emergency with her dog and was unable to leave the driveway due to Dr. Manners' parking. This, she said, led to the heated exchange.

Kennedy further asserted that Dr. Manners shouted, "Hope the dog dies, Louise," which caused her to momentarily lose control. She admitted to using profanity but denied hitting Dr. Manners or ever holding a knife.

On Tuesday, a police officer testified that no trace of Kennedy's DNA was found on Dr. Manners' clothing from the day of the incident.

The trial was adjourned by the magistrate to address claims that Dr. Manners' children were "coaching" her evidence from the public gallery. The case will resume in February, leaving the public with many questions and a desire to see justice served.
